Heads turned on Broadway
in Newburgh Monday when this 40-ton cement and reinforced
steel pylon, 160 feet long, inched its way through 6 p.m.
traffic from Steel Style Inc. on 401 South Water St. towards
Buffalo. It will support part of a bridge over Lake Chattauqua.
About 250 more will be floated up the Hudson River from Bayshore
Pile Co. in Virginia. The two-section trailer hauling the
pylon had trouble getting up River Road where it picked up
a New Windsor police escort and later was shepherded by City
of Newburgh police to the Thruway.
